With a population of about 200, Tomales is home to Tomales High School, operated by the Shoreline Unified School District. The community's historic downtown section at the intersection of Highway 1 and Dillon Beach road has a general store, a coffee shop, an art gallery, a deli, a hotel, and a restaurant. Dillon Beach Road leads to the small coastal community of the same name, where the splendor of the Pacific Ocean awaits.
